ARRIVAL/DROP OFF PROCEDURES
TEACHERS ARE NOT ON DUTY TO SUPERVISE CHILDREN BEFORE 7:25 A.M. The school cannot be responsible for students who arrive earlier than the time stated above. Doors will open at 7:25. School starts at 7:30 am. (See arrival procedures)
Drop Off:
Doors open at 7:25am for drop-off. Out of respect for others, remain in the drop-off line until the car reaches the orange cones. A staff member will open the car door and greet the student(s) for the day. Student drop-off is the lane closest to the building. Please do not drop your student off when no adult is outside. Please do not drop your student off in the left lane. After 7:46, students are considered tardy.
Children’s House Drop off: Doors facing Boston Street (back side of Emerson)
Elementary Drop off: Doors facing MLK Jr. Blvd (front of Emerson)
Dismissal:
2:45-we know that this time is later than normal. However, it gives the last enrichment rotation time to complete and students to gather their belongings before heading to dismissal.
Children's House (Pre-K and Kinder) and their siblings: will pick up on the backside of Emerson, Boston Street. Drivers will enter from the south side of the building and will use the lane closest to the building to pick up students. Drivers must remain in their car during pick-up. An Emerson staff member will call your child to meet you outside by the orange cones. Once the car stops by an orange cone, your child will be walked out to the car.
Because of the volume of students at dismissal, we ask that families pull up or park to secure seatbelts and car seats.
Elementary will pick up on the front side of Emerson, MLK Jr. Blvd. Drivers will enter off MLK and will use the lane closest to the building to pick up students. Drivers must remain in their car during pick-up. An Emerson staff member will call your child to meet you outside by the orange cones. Once the car stops by an orange cone, your child will be walked out to the car.
Families with students in both children's house and elementary will be dismissed from the back of the building off Boston Ave.
EXPLAINED ABSENCES
If your child cannot come to school, you need to report the absence and the reason for the absence to the school attendance office before 9:00 a.m. The phone number for the attendance clerk is (918) 925-1320.
Following are reasons for explaining absences:
- Student illness- Please provide the office with a doctor’s note for documentation of office visits.
- Death in the immediate family.
- Observance of a religious holiday.
Students who have ten consecutive unexplained absences will be withdrawn. If the student returns to school, the parent must first go to the Enrollment Center to re-enroll.
If you do not contact the school, the absence will be considered an unexplained absence. Excessive unexcused absences are grounds for interventions by school personnel and referral to the District Attorney’s office for non-compliance of State Laws regarding compulsory school attendance. Students with excessive absences may be retained.
TARDINESS
- Children are expected to be punctual in arriving at their assigned areas. They are expected to be in the assigned place and ready to work at 7:30 A.M. Any student who is not in class at the appropriate time will report to the office for a tardy slip. When a child arrives after 7:46 am, the student is to obtain a tardy slip from the front office before reporting to class.
- Students arriving after 8:00 a.m. will need to be accompanied by an adult.
- Students who arrive after 10:30 a.m. are considered absent for one-half day.
