Marcy Guardado named Emerson Support Professional of the Year

Marcy Guardado is the 2025-2026 Emerson Elementary Support Professional of the Year!

Marcy started working as a teacher assistant at Emerson four years ago. We asked her a few questions to learn more about her and her time in Tulsa Public Schools.

What led you to a career in education?

I was drawn to education through my experience supporting my son, who is on the autism spectrum. Seeing his daily struggles in elementary school opened my eyes to the gaps in understanding and support that many students face. I felt called to step into education to help create a more inclusive, compassionate learning environment where all students can thrive.

What is your favorite thing about your job?

My favorite part of my job is working one on one with students and building meaningful relationships with them. Those individual connections allow me to truly understand how they learn and what they need to succeed. There's nothing more rewarding than supporting a student through challenges and then witnessing that "wow" moment , when their face lights up because it finally clicks. Being a part of the breakthrough is why I love doing that I do.

What is one thing you are passionate about outside of work?

I enjoy road trips with my children and creating those lasting memories and sharing new experiences.   I am an avid audiobook listener and just recently have fallen in love with plant care and I enjoy volunteering wherever I can because giving back is something I deeply value.

Is there anything else you would like to share?

One thing I would like for people to know about me is that I lead with empathy. My journey into education has given me a deep understanding of what families and students may be navigating behind the scenes. I don't take that responsibility lightly, and I strive to be someone students feel safe with, supported, and truly be seen by.
