Greetings parents/guardians of our wonderful Emerson students!
I wanted to take this opportunity to welcome those that are new to the Emerson family and welcome back those families that are returning to the Emerson family. As we approach the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year we are all experiencing a unique journey and looking at education with a new set of eyes. School is going to look much different than it ever has. We are so excited about having your students for the upcoming school year. Our teachers and staff at Emerson are working very hard to ensure that the first nine weeks of your students' school year will be successful. Although it is not ideal and we know that students learn best in person, we are going to maintain the integrity and character that Emerson is all about and make sure your student is provided with the best education possible.
What is the difference between distance learning and virtual academy?
Virtual Academy: Students specifically enroll in the Virtual Academy and commit to attending school on-line for the first semester (January). Students at Emerson PK-4th grade will receive instruction from a Montessori teacher and complete Montessori tasks. If your student is in 5th grade, they will be taught by a Tulsa Schools Virtual teacher assigned to them.
Distance Learning: Families enroll their students at Emerson and follow the Tulsa Schools "mode" of learning. This "mode" of learning can be either in-person, blended A/B, or distance learning. With the School Board decision, the first 9 weeks will be distance learning.
Why two principals? We hear this question often, below is an explanation:
Mrs. Taylor: Emerson Building principal grades PK-5
Daily management of Emerson including students, families and staff
Non-Montessori teacher development
Community partnerships and outreach
Mrs. Beckham: Emerson program principal grades PK-4
Development of Montessori teachers and staff
Develop incoming Montessori teachers and staff
Development of Montessori curriculum
Montessori community education
I am excited to begin my Montessori journey by starting my training to be a Montessori certified educator. I am honored to serve as your principal at Emerson Elementary. It is truly a privilege to be a part of a community where parents, teachers and students care for each other and strive to build personal relationships that support academic and personal growth. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
